Tips to reduce filler words (um, like, basically) when speaking?

I counted my filler words on a recording and it was painful — "basically" every other sentence. Looking for practical tips that worked for you. So far I've tried:

  • Pausing silently instead of saying "um"
  • Slowing down a little so my brain keeps up with my mouth
  • Practising the same answer a few times until it's smooth

What else helped you sound more fluent?
