Best portals + a realistic strategy for off-campus fresher roles in 2026
For everyone who didn't get placed on campus or wants better options — here's a practical off-campus strategy that worked for me and a few friends.
Where to actually apply
- Company career pages: highest signal, lowest competition vs job boards. Make a list of 30 target companies and check them weekly.
- LinkedIn: set job alerts, but also use it to message people, not just apply.
- Naukri / Instahyre / Wellfound (startups): useful, but expect volume and generic responses.
- Off-campus drives: TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Infosys run them regularly — follow their notifications.
The part most people skip
Referrals. A referred application is read far more often than a cold one. Politely message employees in your target company, build a small rapport, then ask if they'd be open to referring you. Most fresher off-campus success I've seen came through this, not portals.
Stay organised
Track every application — company, role, date, status, follow-up. Following up after a week genuinely increases responses. (I use the MockMate interview tracker for this.)
